Indonesia has had key agreements signed in 2024 to boost private network development in the world’s fourth most populous country. In January, Aviat Networks announced that they were collaborating with Indonesia’s PT Smartfren Telecom to help deliver private wireless indoor and outdoor networks, industry digitalization and automation, as well as benefit vertical industries in Indonesia like hospitals, oil/gas companies and agriculture. Later that year, Baicells made an agreement with PT Smartfren Telecom too. The goal would be to deliver turnkey network solutions for the same reasons Aviat will be deploying them for.
The two partnerships are aiming to launch the plan this year – and it all begins with the mining industry near Jakarta, according to Baicells. Together, the autonomous vehicles will be able to be operated through private wireless, including machines that move large amounts of rock and earth. That is the main goal of the operation, but it can be scaled up later to include sensors, video, and voice communication. Baicells noted that private wireless is optimal for a case like this in Indonesia because of its improved connectivity and low latency, allowing a stronger connection with less down time.
Baicells GM for the International Division said of the project, “”We continue to experience rising demand for private networks to help deliver enterprises of all types the benefits in transforming their business with automation and more. Our products, with their attractive economics and operational simplicity, make a great fit for such initiatives as more and more carriers are learning.”
